>>cbs news bay area. this is the morning edition. and there there was a small very small look like a grass fire. just right next to the road across the street in our horse pasture, and it went very, very fast. when he conditions and bone dry brush. wildfires ripped through parts of the bay as fire season kicks up, forcing families out of their homes and that's not the only threat in the north bay and

invasive species instructed to be killed on sight. his is spotted here in california. the warning to our local wine industry. work week begins smoky dry and in windy, especially in the north bay, where red flag warnings go into effect. and just under 2 hours, it's difficult news for people in sonoma county. already evacuated. because of the fire crews worked hard through the night to fight the flames that have burned over 1000 acres now tearing through buildings and triggering an evacuation order. sean chitnis is live in cloverdale for us this morning, bringing us the latest update, sean good morning. gianna. good morning. yeah, and it's important that you mentioned that red flag warning because at the update that happened here at base camp in cloverdale. they said they were going to act as if that was in effect, even before it begins, or if they're crews are just outside of that area. that's how serious those conditions are, and that is going to be a crucial part of their response today as they expected to be

another difficult day, dealing with a variety of challenges. so let's again update you on the latest that we have coming out of that briefing that wrapped up just a little more than an hour ago. go the fire so far has burned around 1100 acres, and we believe that it is 20% contained based on the information that we're getting. here it is located. southeast of lake sonoma. and we were told at this briefing that 1 firefighter was injured yesterday, but we are still waiting for an update on that fire fighters conditions. cal fire says this is really unusual. force anoma county to be dealing with the fire like this in mid june, and the conditions that are going to make this even more of a challenge on day to include the wind as we've been talking about, but also a rugged terrain. especially on the western side of this fire and there's the fact that that comes from the fires that have burned in years past while the last 2 years have been considered mild fire seasons there are still burn scars and conditions that create a fuel. for this particular fire. we

did get to hear from a resident yesterday who lives in the area and knows the challenge that fire face this is a beautiful area dry creeks. absolutely beautiful, beautiful wineries out here a lot of beautiful homes, so all right. spread pretty quick been here about 5 years, so seeing the fire spread pretty quick, hopefully never turns out pretty good. so when we talk about evacuations, >>we know that more >>than 400. >>people >>have >>already >>been >>asked >>to do that, and >>there are probably >>another >>400 >>that are >>essentially in a warning >>zone being asked to get ready and could be >>told to >>do the exact same thing >>in terms >>of the >>impacts of >>the >>fire >>arm buildings. we know >>that there are >>some structures >>that have burned, >>but as >>of >>this morning >>far couldn't say exactly what those were. they hope >>to have an update for us on >>that >>later today. >>gianna >>back to you. all right, sean, thank you so much. we'll be watching that closely. well, the south bay dealt with this same hot and dry temperatures, sparking fires over the weekend. fire crews were able to tackle a 19 acre wildfire broke out early saturday morning. this was just inside san jose city limits. it was 100% contained about this time

on sunday. so let's take a look across the bay area on this monday morning as we think about the weather and the winds and, of course, the spirit. this despair. the air alert in effect today. here's jessica with your forecast. let's start. down in the south bay, where daytime highs today are sitting in the 80s. heading into this afternoon, we see a similar trend with more 80s off into the east bay near antioch in livermore, but we're keeping it close eye on the north bay. as fire weather conditions continue to be the trend for us into the evening hours tonight. we're expecting 80s up in the north bay. take a look at what's going on for us. the national weather service has issued a red flag warning throughout solano county, the higher elevated areas throughout napa and sonoma and pretty much all the sacramento valley now relative humidity today will drop down to around 5%. we're also dealing with breezy conditions into the evening hours tonight to 2 main ingredients when it comes to fire weather conditions. anywhere throughout the state of california. but back here in the bay, we could see wind gusts close to around 25. to 30 mph heading into this afternoon. this is now by 7:00, a similar trend with those

winds continuing to push that smoke to the south, relative humidity this morning wasn't that bad, but wow, just by lunchtime, we drop down to around 10%. we're going to continue to watch that same trend into the evening hours tonight, down to around 5% in areas like napa. all the way over into alejo and stretching all the way off into fairfield, too. firefighters have their hands full this morning crews in sacramento have their hands full this morning. crews are battling the fast moving excelsior fire in eastern sacramento county. so far, the fire has scorched nearly 900 acres. crews are still working to draw containment lines using bulldozers. and authorities say the large vegetation fire broke out just before noon yesterday, west of slough house and new york celser and jackson roads. several outbuildings have already been destroyed as of late last night and evacuation orders still, in effect for the multiple residents that live in the area firefighters have been attacking the flames on the ground, and you can see by that helicopter. also in the air.

thankfully, though they were able to protect evacuated homes and livestock. we 1st arrived. we had a significant column that was very limited on visibilities to our crews are driving through smoke. we obviously have to take a lot of precautions with something like that small, sparking cause a major major fire we need our community, to be diligent. and prevent these kinds of tragedies. the cause of the fire is still under investigation. no injuries have been reported. well. meantime, let's head south over in los angeles county fire crews are still trying to get a better grip on the post fire. this is near the town of gorman. latest numbers from cal fire show it's grown to over 14,600. acres. alongside interstate 5/3. firefighters working to get containment up to 8%. now more than 1200 people. have been evacuated both hungry valley and near pyramid lake, this massive blaze started at around 145. p.m. on saturday near the grapevine. stay up to date with

everything related to the fire up in sonoma county and the other fires burning in california on our website. kpx dot and on the cbs news app. yeah. time now for a look at this morning. other top stories, police shooting in freemont ends with an armed suspect taken to the hospital. it happened at around 9:00 sunday morning, fremont, police say it started with a carjacking. in a walmart parking lot. the suspect left on foot. but was spotted nearby and at some he was shot and taken to a nearby hospital. police say he had a knife, but they didn't say what led to the shooting. no officers were hurt. well, the crowd turned unruly after police responded to a sideshow in south san jose. police said. it happened at around 7 p.m. on winchester boulevard. reserve. oicer was flagged down a a person struck by a sideshow car when they tried to assist their patrol car was severely damaged by spectators, which prevented person. we're told the officer had minor injuries. no immediate arrests were made as

expected at that same time closer to our coast. now mix that with the fact that earlier this morning relative humidity wasn't that bad, but now as we head into the afternoon hours, it drops that's a big concern for all the boots out there on the ground right now fighting those fires up in the north bay anywhere to around 5%. relative humidity is expected as we head into the evening hours tonight, just around 5:00. all eyes are on the north bay right now, and we're noticing that impact all the bay area with poor air quality lasting into this afternoon. daytime highs today. here's the best part. we're not dealing with anything too extreme when it comes to our heat, but it's definitely a warm day for us off into the east bay 80s in the forecast today, anywhere from santa rosa off into concord and livermore. we have 80s down into the santa clara valley, lasting into the afternoon hours today. and a similar trend tomorrow to we cool down just a little bit more on wednesday, which is the last day of spring we head into 80s once again heading into the 1st day of summer on thursday, and then a nice warm up right around the corner. into this weekend forecast with 90s in sight throughout our inland
