What Elmore Leonard books is Raylan given in? ›

Or perhaps it was the unique character at the heart of the series, U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens. Leonard introduced him as a supporting character in the 1993 novel Pronto, revived him two years later in Riding the Rap, and brought him home to Kentucky in the 2001 novella Fire in the Hole (upon which Justified is based).

This year's offering has Raylan inserted into Leonard's 1980 novel, City Primeval: High Noon in Detroit, where he faces down Clement Mansell (Boyd Holbrook), a wily and violent murderer who decisively, albeit selectively, commits acts of violence without remorse.

The series finale, "The Promise," delivers a satisfying wrap-up for each character. After a four-year jump, Raylan has returned to Miami to be closer to his daughter, but he catches up with Ava who is living in California with her son Boyd. Boyd, who is serving a life sentence, is preaching for his prison church group.

Instead, Justified's season 6 finale Boyd earned life in prison for his various misdeeds, but he and Raylan shared one final scene together that served as a perfect button on their complex relationship. Bringing Boyd back after such a great ending was risky, though it makes a potential season 2 all the more exciting.
