I, I'm a one way motorway
I'm the one that drives away
Follows you back home
I, I'm a street light shining
I'm a white light blinding bright
Burning off and on
Uh huh huh

It's times like these you learn to live again
It's times like these you give and give again
It's times like these you learn to love again
It's times like these time and time again

I, I'm a new day rising
I'm a brand new sky
To hang the stars upon tonight
But I, I'm a little divided
Do I stay or run away
And leave it all behind?
Uh huh huh

It's times like these you learn to live again
It's times like these you give and give again
It's times like these you learn to love again
It's times like these time and time again

Oh oh oh whoa oh, uh huh huh
Whoa oh, uh huh huh
Whoa oh, uh huh huh
Uh huh huh
Uh huh
Uh huh huh

It's times like these you learn to live again
It's times like these you give and give again
It's times like these you learn to love again
It's times like these time and time again

It's times like these you learn to live again
It's times like these you give and give again
It's times like these you learn to love again
It's times like these time and time again

It's times like these you learn to live again
It's times like these you give and give again
It's times like these you learn to love again
It's times like these time and time again

    My Interpretation

This is just my personal interpretation...

i think each 3 line portion is dedicated to a life situation. for me it reminds me of a relationship i was in for over 3 years. it had a very very harsh ending, and afterwards i found myself lost and trying to find myself(relates to first half of verse 1). eventually, I evolved into the person i am today. a strong, confident, intelligent individual... who can't seem to commit to anyone.(2nd half of first verse).

The chorus is kind of a progression of what you go through when you feel yourself really devastated.

first, you have to come to grips with yourself and learn to live through your daily routine again. the basics. then, you learn to have faith and trust in others(give). Last, you learn to open up and love again.

Second verse is the part of my life i find myself at right now...

New day rising refers to a new girl who enters my life. Lots of high hopes, leading to the second part of the verse. should i stay or run away, and leave it all behind...

on a personal level, i'm still trying to learn how to love again.. I do however have the 2nd verse set as a ringtone for any girl i start talking to because of this...

    Song Meaning

The lyrics discuss how Dave Grohl felt "like I wasn't entirely myself" during the three-month hiatus the Foo Fighters entered following the tense and unsatisfying first recording sessions for One by One, as well as his uncertaintity about the future of the band.[2][3] The lyric "I'm a new day rising" is a reference to the album New Day Rising by Hüsker Dü, one of Grohl's favorite groups.

    Song Meaning

This was the song that was playing in the car when I said my last goodbyes to my Dad. It was also the song I heard when I drove away from my house for the last time before it got completely demolished by a hurricane. I was never really a Foo Fighters fan but this song moved me in a way that made tears stream down my face. Now that I read the lyrics and heard some of the interpretations, now I believe that the Universe was talking to me through this song.

It's about cycles of life, patterns of good and bad. This is about the hard times, and seeing the big picture just when it's worst.

the road leads away and comes back home. It's about coming 'full circle'.

When I heard this song the first time five years ago I had just come from hospital. My doctor had told me that my cancer chemotherapy had worked and it looked like I was going to be alright after all. I sat alone in my apartment listened this song from the radio and cried. I had never felt so alive.---It's times like these you learn to live again---

You're f-ing kidding me. I thought there would be more posts on this that Everlong, but apparently not. I guess no one's heard the acoustic version.

Its just the whole wheel idea, life sucks, you move on, and you're constantly learning, giving, taking, loving, etc..

The studio version of this one will get stuck in my head pretty quick because it goes into 7/4 and the dissanence in the choard is so striking. But still, the acoustic version of this is loads more emotional, gripping, and just plain better. :)

I thought this was about the fact that we make mistakes and these make us more than our successes- time and time again...

The Spy Doors, The Like a lot of the other comments are saying, I think this mainly about voyeurism. If the song was about his girlfriend, then why would he use the word spy. If you are a spy it means you shouldn't be caught, that is kind of the whole point, and if you are a voyeur, the whole point of the pleasure you get from it, is the fact that the other people don't know you are watching them. See a bit of a connection there? Step Ministry Both as a standalone and as part of the DSOTS album, you can take this lyric as read. As a matter of public record, Jourgensen's drug intake was legendary even in the 1980s. By the late 90s, in his own words, he was grappling with massive addiction issues and had lost almost everything: friends, spouse, money and had nearly died more than once. "Dark Side of the Spoon" is a both funny & sad title for an album made by a musical genius who was losing the plot; Fortnight Taylor Swift The song 'Fortnight' by Taylor Swift and Post Malone tells a story about strong feelings, complicated relationships, and secret wishes. It talks about love, betrayal, and wanting someone who doesn't feel the same. The word 'fortnight' shows short-lived happiness and guilty pleasures, leading to sadness. It shows how messy relationships can be and the results of hiding emotions. “I was supposed to be sent away / But they forgot to come and get me,” she kickstarts the song in the first verse with lines suggesting an admission to a hospital for people with mental illnesses. She goes in the verse admitting her lover is the reason why she is like this. In the chorus, she sings about their time in love and reflects on how he has now settled with someone else. “I took the miracle move-on drug, the effects were temporary / And I love you, it’s ruining my life,” on the second verse she details her struggles to forget about him and the negative effects of her failure. “Thought of callin’ ya, but you won’t pick up / ‘Nother fortnight lost in America,” Post Malone sings in the outro. Light Up The Sky Van Halen The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it. Fast Car Tracy Chapman "Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.
