Two rounds of rain and storms expected Tuesday in Southeastern Wisconsin (2024)

Most of the Fourth of July should be dry

I KNOW YOU’RE ALL TIRED OF DEALING WITH THE RAIN, BUT THAT’S WHAT WE’RE GOING TO GET AGAIN FOR TOMORROW. NOW LET’S START WITH THE BETTER NEWS. THE CHANCE OF SEVERE WEATHER IS VERY, VERY MINIMAL AROUND HERE. FOR TOMORROW. BETTER CHANCES WILL STAY DOWN TO THE SOUTHWEST OF US, ESPECIALLY INTO PARTS OF MISSOURI AND IOWA. WE’LL WATCH IT CLOSELY HERE. WEATHERWATCH 12. BUT THE MOST PART IS JUST GOING TO BE A CLOUDY DAY WITH SOME RAIN IN THE MORNING, PROBABLY SOME BREAKS IN THE AFTERNOON. RAIN AGAIN IN THE EVENING, SEVERE WEATHER NOT EXPECTED. AN INCH, POSSIBLY AN INCH AND A HALF OF RAIN THOUGH, SO HEAVY RAIN WILL BE THE BIGGEST IMPACT OUT OF THIS VERY LOW. THREATS OF ANY WIND DAMAGE OR LARGE HAIL. UNLESS WE WOULD SOMEHOW GET SUNSHINE FOR TOMORROW. BUT THAT LOOKS PRETTY UNLIKELY. WE’LL JUST BE LOCKED IN THE CLOUDS HERE COMES THE INITIAL PART OF THE RAIN. THIS WILL LIKELY FALL APART THAT FIRST ROUND BEFORE IT MOVES IN. THE BETTER CHANCE OF ROUND NUMBER ONE WILL BE MOVING IN DURING THE MORNING HOURS, PROBABLY RIGHT AROUND THE MORNING RUSH HOUR. HERE’S 7:00 IN THE MORNING THAT ROUND MOVES THROUGH, THEN NOTICE HOW THERE’S GOING TO BE SOME DRY TIME. STILL COULD BE A FEW ISOLATED SHOWERS THAT POP UP ANY TIME DURING THE AFTERNOON. LOCKED IN THE CLOUDS, AND THEN THE NEXT ROUND ROLLS IN FOR TOMORROW EVENING. THE NICE THING IS THAT GETS OUT OF HERE. SO IT’S A ONE DAY OF UGLINESS AND THEN MUCH NICER WEATHER AS WE HEAD THROUGHOUT THE DAY. ON WEDNESDAY. AND IF YOU’VE BEEN WAITING FOR IT TO WARM BACK UP, YOU DIDN’T LIKE THESE TEMPERATURES IN THE 60S. IT WILL BE WARMER THIS WEEK. BEST CHANCE OF RAIN THIS WEEK WILL BE TOMORROW. VERY LITTLE CHANCE OF RAIN WEDNESDAY OR THURSDAY. WHY IS THAT IMPORTANT DAY? WELL, BECAUSE IT’S THE. 4TH OF JULY AND IT LOOKS LIKE IT’S GOING TO BE DRY NOW. SO IT’S TRENDING DRY WHICH IS GOOD. A FEW ISOLATED SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS ON FRIDAY AND SATURDAY. GOOD THING ON WEDNESDAY. WEDNESDAY IS A BIG TRAVEL DAY AND THE WEATHER SHOULD COOPERATE. 75 IF YOU GET THE RED LIGHT TOMORROW BECAUSE IT IS GOING TO RAIN A FAIR AMOUNT, BACK TO HOT BACK, BACK TO STICKY ON WEDNESDAY, CLOSE TO 90 AND THEN 83 DEGREES ON THE 4TH OF JULY. ALSO SOMEONE’S BIRTHDAY STANDING. NOT THAT FAR AWAY FROM HERE. 81 TO START THE MONTH, 82 BY THE END OF THE MONTH AND WE AVERAGE A BUNCH OF RAIN. STILL 3.4IN. LET’S HOPE WE DON’T MATCH. JULY OF 2010, WHEN WE HAD ALMOST 11IN OF RAIN. THE AVERAGE HIGH GETS UP A LITTLE BIT HIGHER THE MONTH. THAT’S THE WARMEST ON AVERAGE, BY THE WAY, IS JULY SUNSET TIMES GO THE OTHER DIRECTION BECAUSE WE’VE ALREADY PASSED THE FIRST DAY OF SUMMER, BUT THERE’S STILL VERY LONG DAYS. 2024, TWO WEEKS AWAY FOR THE RNC. THIS WILL BE VERY, VERY BUSY. 73 THE CLOUDS HAVE MOVED IN OUT IN DELAVAN AND CLOUDY IS GOING TO BE KIND OF THE CASE THROUGHOUT THE EVENING. THIS IS GOOD NEWS. LOW LEVELS OF TREE POLLEN, GRASS POLLEN AND WEED POLLEN. LET’S HOPE THAT CAN CONTINUE. TEMPERATURES TOMORROW WARMER THAN TODAY. WE ONLY GOT TO 69. SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS OFF AND ON DURING THE DAY. AGAIN, IT’S NOT GOING TO RAIN ALL DAY. BETTER CHANCE IN THE MORNING AND THEN LATER IN THE EVENING. WEDNESDAY. STICKY BUT GOOD NEWS FOR TRAVEL. HIGH TEMPERATURE OF 88 DEGREES AND LOOKING DRY. TRENDING DRY FOR THE 4TH OF JULY. AND THEN FRIDAY A FEW THUNDERSTORMS POSSIBLE. NOT RAINING ALL DAY AND THEN ISOLATED STORMS SATURDAY, SUNDAY, MONDAY YOU GET THE IDEA. TAKE

FAQs

What two kinds of air meet to cause these storms? ›

As a cold front moves into an area, the heavier (more dense) cool air pushes under the lighter (less dense) warm air, causing it to rise up into the troposphere. Lifted warm air ahead of the front produces cumulus or cumulonimbus clouds and thunderstorms.

What conditions could have caused storm 1 to have more rainfall than storm 2? ›

What conditions could have caused Storm 1 to have more rainfall than storm 2? Warmer than before storm 2 and windy. Wind pushed the warmer air parcel even higher and the air parcel lost more energy.

Which front is most likely to last for days? ›

The front that is most likely to last for days is a Stationary Front. A stationary front occurs when a warm air mass and a cold air mass meet, but neither is strong enough to move the other. As a result, the front remains in the same area for an extended period of time.

What are the 2 reasons storms form? ›

How does a thunderstorm form? Three basic ingredients are required for a thunderstorm to form: moisture, rising unstable air (air that keeps rising when given a nudge), and a lifting mechanism to provide the “nudge.”

What storm has the most rain? ›

The wettest tropical cyclone in the United States storm on record is Hurricane Harvey, which dumped 60.58 in (1,539 mm) of rain on Southeast Texas in 2017. Tropical Storm Claudette holds the national 24-hour rainfall record: 42.00 in (1,067 mm) in Alvin, Texas.

Can 2 inches of rain cause flooding? ›

Damaging flooding may happen with only a few inches of water, or it may cover a house to the rooftop. Floods can occur within minutes or over a long period, and may last days, weeks, or longer. Floods are the most common and widespread of all weather-related natural disasters.

What causes big rain storms? ›

Many events of extreme rainfall share characteristics, such as high moisture and an atmospheric disturbance (i.e., a winter storm, warm/cold front or tropical cyclone). The longer these conditions persist in the same place, the more extreme the rainfall you're likely to have.

What 2 types of air masses meet in Tornado Alley? ›

In this area, known as Tornado Alley, storms are caused when dry cold air moving south from Canada meets warm moist air traveling north from the Gulf of Mexico.

What 2 types of air are needed for a tornado to form? ›

The key atmospheric ingredients that lead to tornado potential are instability - warm moist air near the ground, with cooler dry air aloft and wind shear - a change in wind speed and/or direction with height.

What two types of air masses meet? ›

Cold and warm air masses usually come together in middle latitudes areas such as the United States, where they form weather fronts and can produce massive storms.

What type of air causes thunderstorms? ›

Thunderstorms form when warm, moist air rises into cold air. The warm air becomes cooler, which causes moisture, called water vapor, to form small water droplets — a process called condensation. The cooled air drops lower in the atmosphere, warms, and rises again.
